BABY CHAM
'Out There'
by Whitey Don & Heller

Undeniably one of dancehall's finest. From the roots to the bling, from the politricks to the partying, Baby Cham is no doubt making serious moves in the worldwide, creating stirs in the otherwise dormant international dancehall order of greats, and setting fire to the feet of major record label execs. From a slew of anthemic hits like "The Mass," "The Pledge," "Boom/Can I Get A," and "Man an Man," to his notorious charisma and rapport with the ladies, Baby Cham's musical expedition has really just begun.

HOW'D YOU LINK WITH THE MADHOUSE CREW?
Cham: I hook up with Madhouse straight from outta school at age seventeen. Went straight to Dave Kelly. At that time "Pepperseed" riddim was mashing up the place but Dave Kelly said him na record no 'schoolers.' You got to wait until you finish attending school and right as I was finished - boop! History, y'know? An dem carve out de way for me in the business. Show me the way it fe done proper. It's not about hype, ego, or an individual thing. It's about the work and the music that needs to be done. That alone kinda get you all into yourself no matter what's goin on. It's just 'out there'. No matter how big the songs are or how big the album is it's just 'out there'. We are always like underground. But we and Madhouse is like collective still. Each one help the other cause no matter where I am I'm always biggin up Madhouse and Xtra Large, Madhouse's baby label. True, without them them would be no Baby Cham.

YOU ARE POLITICAL BUT AT THE SAME TIME YOUR MUSIC HITS ON THE PARTY TIP AND BOOM YOU TURN BIG STAR. WHAT ABOUT THIS?
Cham: The political aspect come from my society, the community that I grow up in. Y'see, Jamaica's two political faction PNP and JLP. When PNP is in power the JLP areas don't get nuttin. No roads fix, none a dat! An vice versa. That's where my view came from. It's just my frustration from when I was a kid. So now, I put out my fire with words. On the party side y'done know we love woman and we love party. So we blend them all, all subject. But still the bugga dem ban "Desperate Measure" and the video cause in the video I throw a chair to the Prime Minister's face an the opposition's face also. Both a dem banned it! Every day they would write about it in the paper like they were tryin to stop my career or something. But just the other week I read that "Desperate Measure" was probably one of the best song ever to mek in Jamaica. It's just now they are really understanding where I was comin from.

WHAT'S COMING FOR BABY CHAM?
Cham: I'm really workin on the album, promotions from here to here. True the album has sparked up some ears. All Hip Hop and R&B artists they're hookin up with Madhouse tryin to get the raw flavour for their albums. So now me an Dave is like flying here and flying there. One night workin with Foxy another night with DJ Blue. But right now there are some major labels interested in licensing the album and singing the artiste. That's what we're really working on right now.
